BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments use Botulinum Toxin to treat the visual signs of aging by reducing or removing wrinkles. This is a safe, effective way of treating aging skin without cosmetic surgery. Common areas to be treated include horizontal forehead furrows, vertical lines between the eyebrows, and "crow's feet" around the eyes. BOTOX Cosmetic helps our Rapid City and Cheyenne patients achieve non-surgical facial rejuvenation. It is capable of producing phenomenal improvements in your appearance.
Reasons for Considering BOTOX Cosmetic
BOTOX Cosmetic treatments are a popular non-surgical solution for facial wrinkles due to muscle movement. Women and men consider these quick, effective injections to treat:
- Excessive facial wrinkles
- Large wrinkles or furrows on the forehead
- Small wrinkles or crow's feet around the eyes
- Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows
Many of our Scottsbluff, Cheyenne and Rapid City plastic surgery patients combine these treatments with other facial procedures such as face lift and eyelid surgery for a more complete facial rejuvenation.
General Procedure
Injections of BOTOX Cosmetic work by altering the facial muscles beneath the skin that cause the wrinkles. A cream with local anesthetic will be placed on your skin prior to treatment, and ice will be immediately applied upon completion of the treatment. Typically only a small amount (1-2 cc's) of product is injected into the area of the wrinkle.
The treatment effectively blocks the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles, thereby relaxing them. After the underlying facial muscles relax skin begins to smooth out. The temporary improvements for our patients will last approximately three to six months, after which they may choose to repeat the procedure.
Recovery for BOTOX Cosmetic Patients
Patients generally return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure; however, following the post-procedure guidelines will dramatically reduce the length and intensity of the recovery period. Patients should avoid engaging in heavy physical exercise, applying cosmetics, or laying down flat for a minimum of 4 hours after the injections. It is also advisable to avoid rubbing or massaging the injected area for at least 24 hours.
